User testing for animal health
e-learning that’s usable and useful

Every delivered learning experience goes through a rigorous testing process, both before and after the final files are delivered to the client.
Within the Wolf animal health agency, we have specialists in UX (user experience), ID (instructional design), and veterinarians, providing a comprehensive, well-rounded review of the learning experience.

The main aims of user testing for e-learning in animal health are:

  • To evaluate user experience: Is it understandable, accessible, readable, engaging?
  • To evaluate quality of sound and video.
  • To spot bugs.
  • To evaluate functionality across different browsers and operating systems.
  • To check data tracking is working.

Benefits of user testing UX

User experience will impact learners’ motivation and success. E-learning that’s designed to optimize the user experience has a higher instructional value to the individual and will improve performance.

Test with target learners veterinarians and nurses

User testing with potential ‘real life’ learners is important to ensure that the final product both useful and usable.

It can be done at any stage: from prototype to almost finalised. At beginning stages, the veterinarian or the nurse can provide feedback on relevancy of content and learnability (e.g. can this be applied to my job?). Near the end stages, they can provide feedback on any major issues such as accessibility or technical issues.

Collecting data and feedback during user testing of prototypes and applying that information to improve each iteration will ultimately result in e-learning that is both usable and useful.

Quality control of delivery formats on multiple platforms or devices

E-learning modules are normally hosted on the client’s own learning management system (LMS) or they can be hosted on their website. There are also options to host them on Wolf’s own LMS.

Prior to delivery, e-learning modules are tested by Wolf using SCORM cloud (a SaaS training delivery platform that hosts e-learning content). This ensures that e-learning courses will play as expected before delivering to the client. Similarly, e-learning courses to be hosted on a client’s website are testing using Wolf’s own server first, to ensure they work correctly. We usually test on different browsers and devices as well.

At Wolf, we liaise closely with the client’s IT team to ensure a smooth final file delivery and uploading onto either their LMS or website. It is imperative to discuss the technical specifications of the project, including the tracking and data collection required, right at the start of the project. These things will have a direct impact on the way in which the learning experience is developed. For example, sometimes our development team will need to put additional development requisites in place for the learning experience to work effectively.

Tracking and data collection

Tracking and data collection is fully customisable depending on the client’s requirements and which platform the module will be hosted on. Here is an example of the type of learner data one of our clients wanted to collect for their e-learning module:

  • Name
  • Email
  • Occupation (vet/nurse/student)
  • Practice name and postcode if they are associated to one
  • Time date of completion
  • Score
  • NPS (score and comment)

All learner data is collected by the client’s LMS or website. The relevant disclaimers are put into place to ensure compliance with GDPR regulations, and we can work with your legal department to ensure this.

Delivery of final files

The level of service provided by Wolf doesn’t stop once the final files are delivered. Our team are on hand to support with the deployment of the module and assist with any technical difficulties.
